Mother of bandit shot dead in Plaisance denies connection to crime.

says son being targeted, can't account for his presence at scene of crime

The Mother of Anthony Taylor (24) who was brutally gunned down following a robbery on the Plaisance Line top say that her son was targeted and is not connected to any criminal activity, although being the last person to see him she could not say how or why he met his demise at the East Coast Demerara popular ‘liming” corner.

The Woman disclosed that her son was in prison for two years and only came out on May 3rd. She said she believes he was targeted by a group of men in a “long drawn out vibe.” The case according to Craig was dismissed on the basis of lack of evidence by Police Prosecution. Craig pointed out that she does not know how Taylor reached Plaisance as he was never one to “walk about,” she added however that she did not recognize the friends he was hanging with. She told this newspaper that Taylor’s body had a gunshot wound to the forehead along with burns and gunpowder residue.

According to a Plaisance resident living next to the Pharmacy where the shooting occurred, no one recognized Taylor who was shot to the head and fell in a trench. By the time he was taken to the hospital by Police, he died.

The other men who were shot are Clyde Harris from Yarrow Dam, Ruimveldt, Troy Collymoore of Diamond Housing Scheme, and Junior Phillips of Plaisance; the overseas based Guyanese who was relieved of his jewellery and other personal belongings.
Phillips is reported to be in a stable condition at the Woodlands Hospital while Harris is in the High Dependency Unit (HDU) of the GPHC.

He sustained gunshot injuries to the left shoulder and jaw and according to hospital officials; he is unconscious in a critical condition. The other victim is Troy Collymore who is also critical in the Intensive Care unit (ICU) of GPHC. Hospital officials say he is unconscious and is on the ventilator.

Troy “Nelly” Collymore was shot twice during the robbery that occurred on Thursday evening at Plaisance. Collymore sustained gunshot wounds to the right side of his head and the other to the lower part of his chest. The thirty year old man’s mother, whose only name given is Glory, told Guyana Times that she believes her son would not make it as he is currently on life support. According to the weeping woman, doctors related to her that Collymore is rejecting all his medications. “Me son wen love meh bad, ow meh god he gun dead I feeling it,” she said.

The man his mother reported, was at his boss’s drug store chatting with 2 other friends when the bandits came up to them and demanded that Phillips hand over his Jewellery. After complying Glory related, one of the bandits went into the drug store and came out with a bag containing money and other valuables. The woman who said other family members were at the Guinness Bar told her that the bandits opened fire on the “the one that went in for mo money.”

She added that Collymore ducked and ran towards the door of the pharmacy where he pulled his boss through and as a result was hit by a bullet to the head.
The injured man has been managing a wash bay owned by Datt. Collymore was a known character to police as he was previously charged for murder in 2009.

The man’s mother has said that Collymore was charged for the murder of a US based businessman Ricardo Henriques who was shot to the head and died minutes after in 2008. Collymore was never imprisoned as the case went cold and all charges were dropped some six months after his arrest.

An employee of the popular Guinness bar located South of Datt’s Pharmacy where the robbery/shoot out occurred, related to Guyana Times that it was unclear exactly what happened but persons who were “liming,” at the square realized it was a shooting following the sound of gunshots.

He stated that upon investigating, a man was seen lying in a trench with three others hastily walking towards a car which then sped away. The man who was lying in a trench (later identified as Taylor) was seen shortly before the shoot out walking out of the Pharmacy with a bag that contained the Jewellery of Phillips and money from the drug store.

Meanwhile the case has taken another spin as the owner of Datt’s Pharmacy is under Police scrutiny. Chandrika ‘Shiv’ Datt reportedly told Police he lost 8 laptops and $320,000.00 worth of jewellery which the bandits carted off. Police also has confirmed that Taylor was one of the bandits who robbed the Pharmacy but it yet unclear why he was shot by one of his own accomplices.

Up to press time no suspect was arrested although Police said they received information positively identifying several suspects.
As recent as June 20, Taylor appeared in court over another shooting incident in which he opened fire on Troy Bishop of Albouystown.

The shooting injured all three individuals involved including Taylor. All three were charged for felonious wounding while Bishop and Sherwin Monker were charged for unlawfully discharging a loaded firearm.
