ONE DEAD FROM ACCIDENT AT FORT CANJE

Three men who were heading to a party in East Canje ended up seriously injured with two of the men clinging to life at the New Amsterdam Hospital. The men collided with a vehicle that was coming down the Canje bridge and drove head on into a lantern post, splitting it in two. The accident occured just a few hundred feet away from the hospital. Dead is julian mohabir from sheet anchorN east canje and injured are dwayne joseph, from canje, a man identified as Seon, Ronaldo Artega from Paramaribo and vincent austin from Coburgs st NA.

Passersby and friends who heard of the accident tried feverishly to release the men who were trapped by the chasse of the vehicle. After a grueling 45 minutes the driver identified as Joseph was taken out and a passerby lifted him and ran with him to the hospital.

After another thirty minutes, mohabir and Austin were taken out after family members arrived with a chainsaw and cut the chasse open releasing the men. Mohabir was conscious at the time but succumbed minutes after examination by a Doctor.

Godfrey Clark a relative of Dwayne Joseph related that the last time hge saw his nephew was sometime during the holidays. Seon, Artega, Austin and Joseph are said to have reeived severe foot injury and minor body injury. Mohabir suffered a puncture to the back of his head according to his older brother Jack.
