BANKS DIH $20M STOCKS LOOTED

Vessel Davie 11

-One die trying to swim to Vessel

A boat owned by a private contractor that was transporting more than $20 M in stocks of beverages had to beach at Stewartville, West Demerara after the vessel encountered difficulties. The vessel, the Davie 11 had two leaks resulting in it sinking while high tide further compounded the situation. Sales and Marketing Executive Carlton Joao has since stated at a Press conference that the loss will not affect the company while consumers will not be affected likewise.

At the time of experiencing difficulties, the Davie 11 was headed to Essequibo. The vessel was at first secured by Police from D Division and later security from the company took over. However the vessel was looted and D Division has since distanced itself. An official remarked that the security chief of the company told villagers to help themselves to the stock since it will still be contaminated.

Mr. Joao has since denied knowledge of this. He said the stocks are still to be handed over the beverage giant. Meanwhile the captain and three crewmen managed to make it to shore safely. However another resident was not so lucky. Police said a man during the middle of the night attempted to swim to the vessel to loot it. The man was seen earlier in the day imbibing and may have been drunk while trying to swim in the murky Demerara River and drowned.
