POLICE CAPTURES BANDITS WHO OPENED FIRE ON THEM


The two robbers, one of whom was shot by Police after they opened fire on the lawmen are now in Police custody. The victim of the robbery Meena Hansraj of Sea Field Leonora was robbed of a quantity of jewellery and cash shortly after she had finished selling at the Leonora Village Market on Saturday.


One of the bandits snatched a bag containing the items. Police tracking the incident around 3:35 pm later that day confronted the two suspects at Zeelugt. The men opened fire on the lawmen and subsequently one of the suspected bandits was shot in the chest.

The other suspect threw his gun into the canal where the police are still searching for the firearm. The injured suspect was taken to the Leonora Hospital where he was treated for an injury to his left chest and released into police custody. One .32 pistol with two live matching rounds and the bag containing the booty were taken into custody together with the suspects.

The men are being processed and expected to be charged on Monday.
