MINER DIES AFTER TREE FALLS ON HIM, 4 OTHER COLLEAGUES INJURED

One miner tragically lost his life after a tree they were cutting fell and crushed him. Dead is Anand Pooran of Santa Rosa, North West District. Pooran's four other colleagues identified as Cliffy, Babb, Jason and Boyce were also injured when they were clearing a piece of land to dredge in Bamboo Panta, Port Kaituma.

The injured men are reported to be in critical conditions. They are presently being transported via boat out of the North West District where the men will flown to the city for badly needed medical attention.
According to the dredge owner Henry Da Silva, one of the men appear to be paralyzed from the neck down. The other men sustained severe head injuries, broken arms and shoulders.
Da silva related that the men were at the time removing some large trees to dredge an area when the tree fell in their direction.

Pooran leaves to mourn his brother Vijay, sisters Simone and Amanda and mother Veronica Pooran.
The men meantime are expected to arrive at the Georgetown Hospital around 2:00 am.
