ANOTHER MINER SUCCUMBS TO INJURIES WHILE REMAINING THREE CRITICAL

Another miner succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday while being transported from the North West District to GPHC for medical attention. Michael Alleyne succumbed to his wounds shortly after 12 hrs yesterday. At the time he was paralyzed from the neck down and was only moving his head.

The other three injured identified as Eston Boyce, Cliffy and Jason are all critical at the Suddie Hospital in Essequibo.

In a twist of fate, the brother of Alleyne, Shawn Alleyne nearly lost his life when he was flung out of the boat after it hit a log and nearly capsized. At the time Shawn was in the Moruca area to meet up the boat that was bringing his injured brother and the other men. Shawn suffered a broken leg after the boat propeller chopped him.

The miners got injured after a tree they cut fell in their direction. The men were clearing an area of trees to conduct dredging activities. As a result 33 year old Anand Pooran was crushed and he died on the spot.

The owner of the dredge, Henry Da Silva is looking after funeral arrangements for the dead men and assisting police with investigations.
